Mark Alan Jackson SFC (RET), 48, of Milford, KS, passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at Indian Point located at Milford Reservoir. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 8, 2019, at the Johnson Funeral Home in Junction City. Pastor Tom Swihart will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery with full military honors. No visitation is planned. Memorial contributions are suggested to be given to Friends of Animals P.O. Mark was born February 17, 1971 in Nelsonville, Ohio to Billy Gene and Sherian Ilene (Davis) Smith.
Mark retired as a highly decorated Combat Engineer. He served as a United States Army Non-commissioned officer (NCO) with more than twenty years of service. He deployed numerous times serving Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan. His heroic and meritorious efforts in combat earned him the Bronze Star. He was severely wounded in Afghanistan and was awarded the Purple Heart for his service and sacrifice.
Mark liked the outdoors, he was an avid hunter and thoroughly enjoyed working at the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism (KDWPT).
Mark was a recent graduate of Kansas State University (KSU) where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Outdoor Enterprise Management.
Mark was a member of Legacy Community Church where he served in numerous and various ways, touched many lives and did all with a servant's heart.
Mark was probably at his happiest when he was working at Bradley's FlintHills Arabians horse farm owned by his Father-in-law (David Bradley) and Mother-in-law (Joyce Bradley), sitting in a deer stand or lending a hand to a neighbor or friend.
His love for the Lord, keen sense of wit and servant's heart endeared Mark to all he came in contact with. He was a "go-to-guy" whose selfless service made a lasting impact.
On May 3, 2014, he married Ronda Bradley. Ronda and Mark lived in Milford, Kansas.
Mark is survived by his loving Wife, Ronda Jackson of the home; his mother, Sherian Smith also of the home in Milford; two sisters, Christina Doss and Mary Jo Storts; his father-in-law and mother-in-law David and Joyce Bradley of Junction City, KS; three nephews, Thomas Cook, Billy Gene Smith and Nik Hutton; three nieces, Kassey Jones, Marinda Cook and Kala Horn; and a host of great-nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father Billy Gene Smith; one brother, Michael Smith and one nephew Nathan Hutton.
