A Celebration of Life service for Marjorie L. Taylor, of Junction City, will be held on Saturday, June 23, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Junction City, with Pastor Matthew Glasgow officiating. Marjorie passed away on June 20, 2012, at Geary County Community Hospital. The family has suggested memorial contributions be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 113 W. 5th St., Junction City, KS 66441, or to the Alzheimer's Association, 4125 SW Gage Center Dr., Suite LL-15, Topeka, KS 66601.
Marjorie was born August 23, 1923 at Newkirk, OK, to Harry R. and Jennie M. (Winchell) Fitzpatrick. She graduated from Newkirk High School, earned her teacher's degree from Cowley County Junior College, and later taught for 4 years at the Grey Noret & Dale schools in rural Newkirk. On October 30, 1946, she married Roy E. Taylor, Sr., her childhood sweetheart.
After her marriage, she retired from teaching, and devoted her time to family and church. She served as a volunteer to scout groups and PTA, and was always willing to lend a helping hand to others. Marjorie was an active member of the Presbyterian Church and its prayer circle. She also served as Clerk of Session, and taught Sunday School. Marjorie was a loving wife of over 65 years, and a gentle and caring mother. She had a wonderful sense of humor, and a life-long love of music, which she instilled in her children. Marjorie often wrote poems, including those written for her grandchildren, and in later life, wrote songs and hymns of praise. She lived joyfully and fully, and will be greatly missed by her many friends and family.
Marjorie is survived by her husband Roy, of the home; brother Harry Fitzpatrick, of Wichita, KS; daughters: Lois Cole, Diane Cole & husband, Ron, and Bonnie Schooler & husband, Joe; sons: Michael Taylor & wife, Alana, Roy Taylor, Jr. & wife, Judy, Patrick Taylor & wife, Julie, and Steven Taylor & wife, Marsha, and son-in-law Larry Biggs; 25 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, sisters & brothers-in-law.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Robert Fitzpatrick, Leonard Fitzpatrick, and Warren Fitzpatrick; sisters: Norma Richards, and Elizabeth Fitzpatrick; and daughter Nancy Biggs.
