Marilyn Marie Heldstab

Marilyn Marie Heldstab, 84, of Junction City, died Friday, December 16, 2016 at Brookdale of Junction City. Marilyn was born July 27, 1932 in Junction City, the daughter of Bruce M. and Marie (Younkin) Burbank. She was raised by her mother Marie and her step-father, Fred Taylor, Jr. Marilyn attended Junction City schools, and graduated from Junction City High School in the Class of 1950.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School Classes for 10 years, served on the Administrative Board, Pastor Parish Committee, and the Finance Committee, and was very active with United Methodist Women. Marilyn had been a M.Y.F. sponsor for 3 years at the church; was a life-member of Better Builders, and had served as a Den Mother for Cub Scouts. She was a life member of the Geary County Historical Society, having served on the Board of Directors; a charter member of the Opera House Foundation; had served as President of Uptown, Inc. for 5 years; and had been a former member of the Junction City Chamber of Commerce. Marilyn enjoyed gardening, quilting, antiquing and refinishing furniture. Marilyn loved being a volunteer. She was active in the Nimble Fingers Quilting Group, Buckles and Bows Square Dance Group, as well as being a big part of the "Save The Opera House" Foundation. Marilyn enjoyed teaching her grandchildren to refinish furniture for numerous 4-H Projects, as well as starting a little business with the grandchildren called "Out of our Gourds".

Marilyn and her husband Owned and Operated Heldstab Appliance for many years in Junction City. After they sold the business to their son in 1988, Marilyn earned her Real Estate License in 1989 and became associated with Killian and Company. She later became the Director of the Geary County Historical Society Museum.


Marilyn married H. Kay Heldstab on Jan. 13, 1952 in Junction City. Kay survives. Other survivors include: 3 sons, Steven K. Heldstab and his wife Charlotte, White Fish, Montana, Randy Heldstab and his wife Chris, Junction City, and Terry A. Heldstab and his wife Peggy, Junction City; a daughter, Chris L. Frink and her husband Marc, Manhattan; 2 sisters, Donna Wall , Birmingham, Alabama, and Yvonne Jordan and her husband Dave, Charleston, South Carolina; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Eileen and Frank Martino, Junction City; 9 Grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephew. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, a brother-in-law, Frank Wall, her step-father, Fred Taylor, Jr., and step-father, Bernie Wolf.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M., Thursday, December 22, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church in Junction City, with Rev. Dr. Dyton L. Owen presiding. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery in Junction City. The family will greet friends Wednesday, December 21, 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., at Penwell-Gabel Junction City, 203 N. Washington, Junction City. They will also greet friends at the church Thursday morning, beginning at 10:00 A.M. until service time

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Marilyn's name to the First United Methodist Church in Junction City or Geary Community Hospice, sent in care of Penwell-Gabel Junction City Chapel, 203 N. Washington, Junction City, KS 66441.
