Marie Grier

Funeral services for Marie Grier, 82 of Junction City will be Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Penwell Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel, 805 Caroline Ave with Superintendent Noel Caldwell officiating. Visitation will be Friday, June 17, 2011 from 6:30 to 7:30 pm at Penwell Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel. Mrs. Grier passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at her home. Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association, 10580 Barkley Suite 400 Overland Park, KS 66212.

Marie was born July 15, 1928 in Birmingham, AL to Shelby & Hattie (Foster Harrison) Miles. She later married Nathan Grier, Sr. he preceded her in death in 1989.

She worked civil service at Fort Riley for numerous years. She was a member of the Civil Service AFGE Local 2324 and St. Xavier's Catholic Church. Marie loved to cook southern ole' school food, tend to her gardens and she was the ultimate "Crappie" connoisseur. She will be missed dearly by her family and her many friends.

Marie is survived by three sons; Nathan Grier III of Hutchinson, KS, Jerry Grier of Leavenworth, KS and Jonathan Grier of Junction City. Five daughters; Diana Caldwell of Manhattan, KS, Ruth McDaniel, Francine Grier both of Salina, KS, Ethel "Cookie" Knightner, Marie Grier Jr. both of Junction City. Eighteen grandchildren; Nikita Knighton, Camia McDaniel, Candice McDaniel, James McDaniel III, Anthony Caldwell, LeAnn Lavergne, Darryl Knighton, Evans Knightner III, Talisha A. Robinson, Ramona Panther, Robert Brown III, Raymond Knighton, Jason M. Hatchett, Andre Knighton, Jerry Nathan Grier, Anthony Truelove, Lanard Fulwood and Calvin McDonald. Twenty-eight great-grandchildren who she adored dearly and two great great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and three sisters.
