Marianne Eliesabeth Garbo, 73, passed away peacefully Friday, February
1, 2008 at her home in Junction City, KS.
She was born on December 1, 1934, in Krossen, Germany, the sixth child
of Martha and Otto Graupner. In 1960, she married Fredrick Garbo, of
Benton, Illinois. She became a naturalized citizen of the United States
on December 11, 1967. She and her husband eventually settled in Junction
City in 1981. While in Junction City, she volunteered at Irwin Army
Hospital and the local VFW, working for USD 475 for a number of years as
a bus aide.
She was preceded in death by her son, James L. Garbo, in 1993, as well
as her parents, 2 brother, and 2 sisters.
She is survived by her husband, 5 children: son Bernard Garbo (Chicago),
daughter Maria and son-in-law Sidney Chapman (Ashland City, TN),
daughter Denise and son-in-law Kenneth Hoff (Junction City), daughter
Michelle Chapman (Ashland City, TN), and daughter Samantha and
son-in-law William Bright (Junction City). She is also survived by 13
grandchildren and a brother, Hans Graupner, and a sister, Erika Ludolph,
both of Germany.
Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., on Saturday, Feb. 9, at
Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 203 N. Washington, Junction City with Father Al Brungardt officiating. Cremation has taken place. Ashes to
be interred privately by the family.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to Hospice at Geary
