Maria Sullivan, 82, Junction City, Kansas passed away January 20, 2013 at the Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale, Arkansas. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, January 26, 2013 with Father Al Brungardt officiating at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington Street, Junction City, Kansas. Burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at 2 p.m., Friday, February 1, 2013. Visitation will be held Friday, January 25, 2013 at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with Rosary at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions have been designated to the St. Xavier Catholic Church, P.O. Box 399, Junction City, KS 66441; Circle of Life Hospice, 901 Jones Rd., Springdale, AR 72762; and the JCHS Bowling Team, c/o Geary Community Schools Foundation, 123 N. Eisenhower Dr., Junction City, KS 66441.
Maria was born August 10, 1930 in Habischried, Germany to Lorenz and Katerina Pfeffer, she was one of twelve brothers and sisters. Maria was a homemaker and in years past was a volunteer for the American Legion and was a former member of the Junction City Monday Night Mixed Bowling League where she served as Secretary. Maria enjoyed watching her boys play sports, and she enjoyed playing cards, bowling, gardening, and cheering for the Denver Broncos and the KU Jayhawks Basketball team.
She is survived by six sons: Bob Strahley (Jenny) of Junction City, KS; Dave Strahley of Supply, NC; Don Strahley (Diane Henry) of Topeka, KS; Rick Strahley of Port Orange, FL; Michael Sullivan (Theresa) of Easton, MD; Erich Sullivan (Melanie) of Rogers, AR; step-son John Sullivan (Susan) of Willow Springs, NC; step-daughter Nancy Maria Sullivan Meyer of Newark, DE; eighteen grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two husbands, George W. Strahley and Harry F. Sullivan, and her step-daughter, Donna Jean Sullivan DiRico.
