Graveside services for Marguerite V. Ratts, 86, of Junction City will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, October 14, 2011 at Highland Cemetery with Pastor Ronnie Roberts officiating. No visitation is planned cremation has taken place with the assistance of Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel. Marguerite passed away at Valley View Senior Life Center on October 5, 2011. Marguerite was born August 9, 1925, Van Buren, AR to Robert Othello and Alva Mae (Miller) English. She grew up in northwest Arkansas and northeast Oklahoma during the depression, being raised by her paternal grandmother, Maggie Morrison. She overcame poverty to support herself and her grandmother by working as a legal secretary.
She married Rodney R. Ratts in 1949 upon his discharge from the Air Force and they lived in Van Buren, AR, Kansas City, MO, Wichita, KS, and finally in Junction City since 1955.
She worked in the businesses she and Rodney founded and was a loving wife and mother. She was active in the First Christian Church, Pilot Club and Eastern Star. Though she did not really enjoy flying, she gamely traveled by air with her husband or other family members at the controls. She later spent many days traveling with her husband throughout the U.S. in various motor homes, and was active in the RV groups with whom they traveled.
She is survived by her husband Rodney R. Ratts, son, Rockey R. Ratts, daughter, Patti Ratts, all of Junction City, five grandchildren, Rachael Paradiso and husband Ugo of Olathe, KS, Rowdy Ratts of Overland Park, KS, Hannah Ratts, Abby Ratts, and Caleb Ratts all of Alma, KS, two great-grandchildren, Emerie Paradiso and Armani Paradiso both of Olathe, KS, sister, Freda Moore of Van Buren, AR and numerous nieces and nephews.
