Marguerite "Marta" Belle Schweitzer


Marguerite "Marta" Belle Schweitzer, 94, of Junction City, died May 27, 2014 at Sterling House in Junction City.

Marta was born on December 10, 1919 in rural Morris County, Kansas the daughter of Charles and Maude (Nott) Dugan.

She attended schools in Morris County and graduated from Wilsey High School in 1937. She later attended and graduated from Nursing School in Emporia

Marta was a member of First United Methodist Church in Junction City and Emporia Nursing School Alumni Assn.

Marta was retired from Geary Community Hospital after 38 years of service as a Registered Nurse in the OB Ward.

Marta married Marvin Schweitzer on Oct. 25, 1947 in Junction City. He died August 6, 1984. Survivors include: 3 grandsons, Dennis (Debbie) Biggs, Hendersonville, TN., Chris (Robin) Biggs, Junction City, and Charlie (Samantha) Biggs, Springfield, TN.; four great-granddaughters, Kristina Joy Johnson of Hendersonville,, TN., Evelyn Rose Biggs of Junction City, KS., Kalli Biggs, and Kaitlyn Biggs, both of Waco, TX.; a great-grandson, Charlie B. Biggs II of Springfield, TN.; and a great-great-granddaughter, Sahara Marie Johnson of Hendersonville, TN.;

She was preceded in death by her parents, and 2 daughters, Kathleen Joy Biggs and Rita Lynn Schweitzer.

A Celebration Of Life Service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 30, 2014 at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel. Burial will be in Milford Cemetery. The family will greet friends Thursday evening, May 29, 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
