Margaret Mary Shane, 92, originally of Junction City, KS passed away at Aberdeen Village in Olathe, Kansas on Friday, June 10th 2016. Margaret was born September 16, 1923 in Waverly, Missouri to Clara (Mueller) and George Willer. She was a graduate of Waverly High School class of 1941. She graduated from St. John's College in Winfield, KS in 1943 with a teaching degree. She taught grade school the fall of 1943 and the spring of 1944 at the Trinity Lutheran School in Cape Girardeau, MO and first through third grades at Our Savior Lutheran School at 42nd and Rainbow in Kansas City for the fall of 1944. It is at St. John's College that she met her husband Fred Shane. He preceded her in death on December 7, 1996. They were married on Thanksgiving Day November 23, 1944 the day after Fred graduated from Midshipman's School with a commission in the US Navy. They moved to Junction City, KS in 1954 where they opened Clough-Shane Auto Supply. Fred and Margaret created a great business together and she served as bookkeeper. In 1975 Mr. Clough sold his portion of the business to Fred, Margaret and Jerry Cameron and the store became Cameron-Shane Auto Supply. They retired and sold the business in 1987. They were active members of St. Paul's Lutheran Church on Clark's Creek, the Junction City Country Club for many years and volunteered at the Geary County Historical Society. She loved oil painting, gardening, her flowers and her family.
She is survived by their four children, Thomas Shane (Sara) of Garden City, KS; Cassandra Moore (Dean) of Olathe, KS; Karen Lawrence (Steve) of Overland Park, KS and Vannessa Osbourn (Bill) of Junction City, KS. Her grandchildren include Paul Moore (Nicole) of Olathe, KS, Scott Moore (Jill) of Olathe, KS, Christopher Shane (Vivien) of Taiwan, Andrea Shane of Oakland, CA and Chester Steinfort of Junction City, KS. Also surviving is her sister Helen Heidbrink of Higginsville, MO and one niece, Judy Marshall (Jim) of Concordia, MO and 6 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the nurses, staff and residents at Northgate Neighborhood at Aberdeen Village and the staff at Grace Hospice for all their love and support.
Celebration of her life will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Chapel in Junction City, KS, with Pastor Christian Schultz presiding. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery in Junction City. The family will greet friends on Wednesday, beginning at 10:00 a.m., at the funeral home.
