A Mass of Christian Burial for Margaret Jo McGuire Deppish will be said 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31 at St. Xavier Catholic Church with Father Kyle Berens officiating. Margaret passed away, Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018 at her residence in Junction City at the age of 81. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 30, 2018 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m.
Margaret Jo McGuire Deppish was born July 15, 1937 at Fort Riley to Martin J. and Vurley Wood McGuire. Her parents preceded her in death. She was the youngest of 13 children: Dennis, Loretta, Helen, Mary, Francis, Marcella, Vurley, Ruth, Thomas, John, Martin Jr. and Martin Earnest, all of whom preceded her in death.
She graduated from St. Xavier's High School in 1956. She was working at the candy counter in the former Kaw Theater when she met her soon-to-be husband, William "Bill" Deppish. They were married June 16, 1956 at St. Xavier's Catholic Church. He preceded her in death July 27, 2013. They were both lifelong residents of Geary County.
Over the years Margaret worked at various jobs including two local pharmacies, The Fashion Shop, Rod's Hallmark and sold Avon. She was a member of St. Xavier Catholic Church, the St. Xavier's Alumni Association, The Ladies' Reading Club and at one time the Geary Community Hospital Auxiliary. She volunteered for The March of Dimes and most recently at the Geary County Historical Society Museum.
She is survived by her four daughters: Julie Deppish and spouse, Leigh Daniels of Pleasanton, CA; Kim Deppish Irvine and spouse Don Irvine of Junction City; Mary Deppish and spouse, Tammy Sheaffer of Gardner, KS and Lisa Deppish and significant other, Claude Sokol of Wichita, KS. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Kyle Irvine and Justin Irvine, both of Manhattan, Alexa Baker of DuPont, WA and Will Scheffer of Gardner, KS. In addition she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
