Manfred (Red) Roy Nelly, 69, of Junction City, Kansas, passed away on March 14, 2024, in his home. Cremation has taken place and a private family graveside service will take place at a later date.
He was born on July 29, 1954, to Everett and Grete (Gneich) Nelly at Great Lakes, Illinois. At the age of two, his family decided to move to Junction City. This is where Red stayed and made his life.
The year leading up to his high school graduation day from Junction City High School, Red decided to enlist into the U.S. Marines and served honorably between the years of 1972 - 1976.
Red took a job at the Railcar Repair Plant after his military career. He was very dedicated to his work. Red started as a shop employee and worked to become a supervisor and later, plant manager. September 1, 2021, he decided to retire to spend more time with his family and with his hobbies.
He was an active member of Boy Scout Troop 460 of Milford, Kansas and the Adventure Scouts. His passions were hunting, fishing, camping, and his family.
He is survived by his loving wife Pamela; one son, John Nelly; one step son, Carl Campbell; one grand daughter, Gracie Campbell; one nephew, Jason Nelly, his wife, Teresa, and their two children, Jayden, and Tatum; one niece, Melissa Nelly-Cramer her husband Michael, and their two children, Monroe and Buddy, and a host of other loving friends.
He is preceded by his parents, one brother, George and his wife Kathi Nelly.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024, 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home.
