Memorial services for Maiya L. Ullmer, 49, of Junction City will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 13, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church, 804 N. Jefferson Street with Pastor Phil Fischer officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at Wreford Cemetery. No Visitation is planned. Mrs. Ullmer passed away on August 4, 2011 at her home. In lieu of flowers the family has designated memorial contributions to KSARDA (Kansas Search and Rescue Dog Association), 3320 NW 43rd Street, Topeka, KS 66618 and the Home Care and Hospice, c/o Geary Community Health Care Foundation, P.O. Box 3015, Junction City, KS 66441.
Maiya was born August 14, 1961 in Lubbock, TX to Dr. Melvin L. & Monitta (Mears) Wisby. She graduated from Junction City High School and later received her Associates Degree from Brown Mackie College in Salina. Maiya worked for her father's practice as a nurse and later joined the Valley View Senior Life team as an administrator. She continued her career and worked many years with the USD 475 School District as a Disciplinary Support Monitor. Until her illness she was the activities coordinator for the geriatric psyche center at Geary Community Hospital.
She married Charles "Chuck" Ullmer on June 27, 1981 in Junction City. They just celebrated their 30 years of marriage.
Maiya was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She had a passion for the Kansas Search and Rescue Dog Association and was heavily involved with the association. She was the Director of the Silent Singers and was very involved with the Junction City Little Theatre.
She is survived by her loving husband, Chuck Ullmer of the home. Three daughters; Maleah Cherico and her husband Jason; Rheanna Ullmer and Chessa Ullmer all of Junction City. A brother; Ken Wisby and his wife Barb also of Junction City. Numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and a host of friends.
Maiya is preceded in death by her parents and a brother Jack "Jackie" Wisby.
