Services for Lydia Louise Hargreaves, 79, of Junction City, Kansas will be held Saturday, February 15, 2003, 12:00 p.m. at St. Xavier's Catholic Church.
Father Al Brungardt will officiate. Lydia died February 7, 2003 at Mercy Health Center, Manhattan, KS during heart surgery. Visitation will be Friday, February 14, 2003, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. Rosary at Johnson Funeral Chapel Burial will be at Mt. St. Joseph Cemetery, Abilene, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Xavier's Catholic Church, 218 N. Washington, Junction City, Kansas 66441. Lydia was born February 27, 1923, at Abilene, Kansas to Joseph and Rose (Koestle) Haslouer. Lydia graduated from Abilene High School. She then graduated from EmporiState University with a Bachelor's Degree in education. Lydia married Dr. Guy Warren Hargreaves May 23, 1947 at
Abilene, Kansas; he survives of the home. During WW II, Lydia assisted in the war effort by making torpedoes at the Sunflower Munitions Plant where she received the nickname "Torpedo Lydia." After the war, she taught elementary school in Hartford, Kansas until marriage. She taught handicapped children in the Junction City school system and later taught Business and Typing classes at St. Xavier's High School. She also taught courses in American Citizenship to hundreds of foreign ladies who married Ft. Riley Soldiers and were needing some assistance in obtaining their American Citizenship. In the 1980's, Lydia
retired from teaching to become a full-time office assistant at her husband's doctor's office. Lydia was a member of St. Xavier's Catholic Church, American Legion Auxiliary, and was active in the Republican Women's Group. She will be best remembered by the staff and residents for her daily visits to Valley View for the last four years to visit her husband. Survivors: Two Sons: Gregory Hargreaves, of Golden, CO, and Guy "Joe" Hargreaves of Olathe, KS; and Four Granddaughters: Dawn Pladson, Holly Hargreaves, Katie
Hargreaves, and Olivia Hargreaves. Preceded In Death By: Parents.
Casket bearers: John Beall, Warren Lee Hargreaves, Chris Davis, Bruce Hargreaves, Steve Matthews, and Lynn Davis.
