Luis "Lou" F. Sierra, 56, of Junction City, Kansas, passed away Monday, March 26, 2012 at his home. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 30, 2012, at the Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Olathe, Kansas. A visitation will be held Thursday, March 29th, from 6 - 8:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel, 805 Caroline Ave., Junction City, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers, the family has designated that memorial contributions be made to Homecare Hospice c/o Geary Community Health Care Foundation, P.O. Box 3015, Junction City, KS, 66441, and The ALS Association Keith Worthington Chapter, 6950 Squibb Road, Suite 210, Mission, KS 66202.
Luis was born April 15, 1955, the son of Felipe and Maria (Melendez) Sierra, at the Fort Brook Army Hospital in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He graduated from Junction City High School and Manhattan Area Vocational College. From 1975 to 1989 Luis worked for various automotive dealerships in Junction City including American Motors, VW, Ford and GM/Audi. He also worked in the maintenance department at Evan's Rail Way and in the Auto Center for Montgomery Wards. He was a certified master mechanic.
In 1992 Luis opened his own business, International Automotive, a foreign and domestic auto repair and service center in Junction City. In 2003 Luis began working at Fort Riley as a military vehicle and heavy equipment mechanic contractor. Luis enjoyed his work with the military the most. He worked various contracts at Ft Riley and one at Ft Hood, TX and another at Ft Irwin, CA. Luis worked for Contract Services Inc at Fort Riley as a heavy equipment mechanic until March 2011.
Luis enjoyed hunting, fishing and football. He played football in high school and softball on the city league. Luis was a loyal KSU and Kansas City Chiefs football fan. He enjoyed motor cross racing, sketching and painting wildlife scenes and mostly spending time at home with his family.
Luis was preceded in death by his mother Maria Isabel Sierra in 2009 and his brother Angel Manuel Sierra in 2005. Survivors include his father Felipe of the home and two sisters, Dally Sierra of Junction City, KS. and Mildred Sierra of Olathe, KS.
