Funeral services for Lucille L. Bowen, 90, of Junction City will be held Friday, September 23, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel with Pastor Jim Bond officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday, September 22, 2005 at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel. Mrs. Bowen passed away at her residence on September 19, 2005. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Red Cross, Geary County Chapter, 111 E. 16th Street, Junction City, KS (for Hurricane Relief.)
Lucille was born November 4, 1914 one of sixteen children at Poteau, OK the daughter of Winnie and Ollie (Sumter) Sweeten. She became a beauty operator at the Main Post Beauty Shop at Ft. Riley in the late 1940's. She owned and operated The Modern Beauty Shop in the 1950's and had a beauty shop in the Bus Station on North Washington in the 1960's. Lucille also owned and operated Wigs by Lucille.
Lucille was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Eastern Star, and Pilot Club.
Lucille married James D. Bowen August 31, 1947 in Manhattan, KS. He preceded her in death February 19, 1999.
She survived by one sister: Kathryn Hunter, Durant, OK and several nieces and nephews.
