Funeral services for LTC (Ret.) William B. Rippert, 73, of Junction City, KS, are set for Thursday, December 19, 2002, 10:00 a.m. at the Main Post Chapel, Fort Riley, KS. Bishop Jack Methvin will officiate. Rippert died December 17, 2002 at Wakefield Rehabilitation Center in Wakefield, KS. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2002 at Johnson Funeral Chapel. He was born June 5, 1929, at Hartford, KS, son of John Joseph and Margaret Eleanor (Mawe) Rippert. He graduated from Mountain Grove High School, Missouri in 1946. After 10 years of commission with the army, William graduated from OCS in 1956.
He married Mabel Delia Rawlings September 25, 1949 at Aberdeen, MD; she preceded him in death August 22, 1985. He served in the United States Army for 26 ½ years. He was a Vietnam Veteran and received the Meritous Service Medal. Rippert retired in 1972 as a Lt. Colonel and was a Logistics Military Officer. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, he held the offices of Elder and Leader of the High Priest Group, and was a member of the military army assistance advisory group. Survivors include his three sons: Steven W. Rippert of Abilene, KS, Kenneth M. Rippert of Junction
City, KS, and William R. Rippert of Albuquerque, NM; one daughter: Mary E. Bessey of Derby, KS; one sister: Mary A. Talkington of Cottonwood Falls, KS; and 10 Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Larry Rippert, Francis Rippert, and John J. Rippert, Jr.; and two sisters: Eleanor Baumgartner and Agnes Frisbee. Casket bearers will be the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Honorary casket bearers will be Jon Hill, John E. Summers, Jerry Easterling, Norman Jones, Julius Dusterhoff, and David Swisher. Organist will be Florence Whitebread. Burial will be at Fort Riley Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, c/o Memorial & Honor Program, P.O. Box 2680 North Canton, OH 44720, and/or ALS-KU Endowment, Association for Research, 3901 Rainbow Blvd., Kansas City, Kansas 66160.
