Ret. Lt Col. Dale Corwin Pancake, Sr.age 89,originally of Haddam, KS died Tuesday July 19, 2011 in Andalusia, AL.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 25, 2011 at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington Street with Father Al Brungardt and Reverend Jim Bond officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be held at Haddam Cemetery, Haddam, KS Monday afternoon.
Lt. Col. Pancake was a veteran of the United States Air Force with over 28 years of service to his country. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 43 years, Anne Jordan Pancake, also a son, Robert B. Pancake, a stepdaughter, Cathy Witt, and his sister, Irma Byrd. At age 70, he met his high school sweetheart, and Ruth Owens Pancake became his second wife of 20 years until her death in January of this year.
Lt. Col. Pancake is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Caroline (Sue) and Kent Jacobsen of Plano, TX, sons and daughters-in-law, Dale C. (Flip) and Helen Pancake, Jr. of Andalusia, AL, Tom and Dawn Owens of Richmond, VA, eleven grandchildren, and eighteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
While living in Junction City, he was a member of the Church of the Nazarene and St. Xavier. He was active in the Optimist Club and enjoyed playing bridge.
Dale Pancake was truly an American patriot, a gentleman, and a man of God.
