Louis T. Snipes, 80, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family. A funeral service will be held 10 AM Wednesday, September 9, 2020, at the New Church of the Living God with Pastor James E. Johnson officiating. Burial will follow the service at Highland Cemetery. Due to the current environment surrounding Covid-19, the family will not have a public visitation. Mr. Snipes will lie in state at Johnson Funeral Home 203 N. Washington Street from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, September 8, 2020 where friends may sign the register book.
Louis was born September 3, 1939, in Jackson, TN, the son of John T. and Jeannie Ruth (Harden) Snipes.
Louis worked for Lynn Haynes on a Plantation in Jackson, TN as a share cropper until the age of 19. He later drove semi trucks and worked as a lumberjack in the logging business harvesting and transporting trees in Tennessee. On October 11, 1974, he moved to Junction City, KS. After arriving in Junction City, he worked as a sand blaster in Abilene, KS. He later went to work as a KP Shift Leader on Fort Riley in the mess hall near the dining hall facility "Black Lion" which was near Craig's Gym for almost thirty years until he was injured on the job.
Louis loved his family and would do anything for anyone. He had a special love and interest in automobiles. Over the years, he owned several Cadillac and Mustang automobiles.
On September 18, 1963, he married Margaret Marie Smith in Jackson, TN.
Survivors include his wife Margaret of the home in Junction City, KS; four sons, Willie T. (Mary) Snipes of Junction City, KS, Tracey D. (Angelica) Snipes and Gregory D. Snipes both of Phoenix, AZ, James Johnson of Junction City, KS and one daughter, Wilma Miles of Atwood, TN, three siblings, June Snipes and Eurlene Snipes both of Junction City, KS and Freddie Snipes of Jackson, TN; five grandchildren, Chelsey Kyle of San Diego, CA, Shemika Snipes and Travis Snipes of Junction City, KS; Dexter Jones and Dominic Jones both of Atwood, TN; and a host of relatives.
Louis was preceded in death by parents John and Jeannie, three sisters, Lidy Bell Snipes, Lizzie Mae Chism, Pearlie Mae Love and his grandson Felix Andre Snipes.
