Sister Lorine Chatman Cunningham was born to Riley and Louise Mayfield Chatman in Elmore County, Alabama on March 3, 1935. While she peacefully slept, she transitioned into eternal rest on December 3, 2019.
Sister Cunningham was born into a large family with five brothers and five sisters. Family would always be a central part of her life. After graduating from Elmore County Training School (high school) she soon married her high school sweetheart, Willie Dorsey Cunningham on September 14, 1953 in Wetumpka, Alabama, and became an Army Wife! After initial military training, the handsome soldier and his young bride arrived at their first duty station - Fort Riley, Kansas in 1954! She quickly started her own family and would eventually be the loving mother to nine children.
She loved to cook and care for her children but as they became school age, she decided to work outside the home as well. She was employed at Wal-Mart for almost 20 years and loved to tell stories about the antics that went on with her fellow co-workers! She also clerked at Johnson Brothers Furniture Store for a short time.
Family was everything to her. She always looked forward to holidays and family get-togethers especially when her children and grandchildren would gather for a BBQ on Fourth of July, and turkey and dressing for Thanksgiving! She was able to see her children one last time and spent her final Thanksgiving with her family just prior to her death.
Sister Cunningham was a member of Second Missionary Baptist Church and came regularly until recently when health issues prevented her from attending.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband Willie, of the home; four sons, Willie Jr., Topeka, KS, Larry Wayne, Montgomery, AL, Jerry, Fort Worth, TX, and Dwight, Topeka, KS; and two daughters, Jennifer Joann, Montgomery, AL, and Jacqueline Smith, Fort Worth, TX. She leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Larry Robinson, Wetumpka, AL, and one half-brother Willie D. Corbin, Cleveland, OH. Lorine was preceded in death by one daughter, Janice and two sons, Bobby and Glenn.
