A funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2007, at the Second Missionary Baptist Church for Loretta "Aileen" Hammond, 87, formerly of Junction City, Kansas. Reverend John H. Knight will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Highland Cemetery. A visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 5, 2007, at the Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel 805 Caroline Ave. Mrs. Hammond passed away Saturday, June 30, 2007, at the John Knox Village in Lee's Summit, Missouri. Loretta "Aileen" Hammond was born September 16, 1919, in Lawrence, Kansas to Alva and Laura Belle (Daniels) Dulin.
She was united in marriage to Reverend John Hammond on May 7, 1946, in Topeka, Kansas and made Junction City her home for over fifty-five years. To this union, two sons and three daughters were born; John Joseph, Carl Edward, Phyllis Jean, Shirley Ann and Doris Elizabeth.
Throughout her life, she worked for various businesses in the community; Woolworth, Geary County Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program, Whitaker Cable, Geary County Sheriff Department, Zion United Church of Christ and Head Start. She also was a Day Care Provider for ten years and a rental property owner for many years.
She confessed Christ at an early age and continued to live a Godly life until the Lord called her home. She was an active member of the First Church of God, Junction City, Kansas. She was a deaconess, trustee, pianist, Sunday school teacher and youth director. She had a heart for young people and always opened her home for fellowship and Bible study.
She was preceded in death by her husband Reverend John Hammond on May 22, 1959; her father and mother, Alva and Laura Belle (Daniels) Dulin; her sister, Hazel Anderson; two brothers, Robert and Alfred Dulin; one grandson, Charles LaJuan Hammond and one great grandson, Detric Johnson.
She leaves to mourn her passing; two sons, John Joseph of Houston, Texas; Carl Edward of Littleton, Colorado; three daughters, Phyllis Jean Cook of Milford, Kansas; Shirley Hammond of Junction City, Kansas; Doris Elizabeth Shields of Kansas City, Missouri; thirteen grandchildren; tweolve great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
