Lois M. Zubrod, 84, of Milford, Kansas, passed away on December 10, 2023, at Chapman Valley Manor surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on November 24, 1939, to Vernie and Lela Parrott (McClam) in Florence County, South Carolina. She graduated Lake City High School in 1958. After graduation, she worked at the South Carolina Health and Environmental Services with both her sisters, Margaret and Hazel. While working in the department, she met the love of her life, Leroy Zubrod. They married on May 7, 1960, in Columbia, South Carolina. They enjoyed 56 years together until his passing in 2016.
Being a military spouse, she had the opportunity to travel the country with her husband and children. After leaving New Jersey in 1979, she found work on Fort Riley as a receptionist for the radiology department in the Irwin Army Hospital for many years until her retirement.
Lois had an excellent green thumb, some of her favorite flowers were petunias, begonias, and roses. She always made sure to have her home well grown with live greenery. Besides the floral scents from the garden, her Southern cooking aromas also had a special place in her home. Christmas dinners were always a treat for her large family. They will remember them fondly.
She is survived by her son, Robert (Diana) Zubrod of Arlington, Texas; daughter, Bonnie (Barry) Kluesner of Junction City, Kansas; one sister, Hazel (Ronnie) McCall of Lexington, South Carolina; three grandsons, Daniel Whitebread, Levi Whitebread, and Ryan Zubrod; one granddaughter, Angela Hamilton and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded by her loving husband Leroy; one sister, Margaret; one brother, Jackie and her mother and father.
Lois's family will always remember her as a sweet soft spoken Southern Belle.
