Lois I. Gibelyou, 87, of Barstow, CA passed away peacefully in Apple Valley, CA on May 2, 2020.
Lois was born in Junction City, Kansas to Claude and Gladys Harrison. That is also where she met and married her husband Russell, becoming a military wife. After only a short eighteen years of marriage, she was widowed. Her life purpose then was raising her five children on her own and she did an awesome job of that! Moving to Barstow in 1970, Lois had worked in food service at both Naugles and Del Taco for over twenty years. After retiring, you could find her keeping busy with puzzles while listening to her favorite country music, enjoying penny-poker night with her family, adding to and admiring her huge collection of anything raccoon, or baking her well loved sugar cookies at Christmas time for family and friends.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband Russell, parents Claude and Gladys Harrison, son Larry, sister Alice Wright, and son-in-law Robert Brown. She is survived by her daughters Linda (James) Lutz of Barstow, Deborah Brown of Kinzer, PA, Gail (Milton) Shoemaker of Helendale, and son Donald (Mary) of Las Vegas. Affectionately nicknamed 'G-Lo' by her grandson Mike, she will be missed by all of her ten grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and two great-greatgrandchildren.
A visitation is scheduled for Monday, May 11, 2020 from 2pm-6pm at Mead Mortuary, 36930 Irwin Rd., Barstow, CA. There will be no services. Interment will be at Ft. Riley, Kansas, where she will be laid to rest with her one true love, Russell. Her family would like to thank Dr. Ram Kamath and the Doctors and Nurses at St. Mary's Hospital in Apple Valley for the compassionate care given Mom in her final days. We would also like to thank her 'second family', the staff and caregivers at Valley Crest Senior Living in Apple Valley for the love and care given our Mom. We will all miss her smile! You are truly special people.
