Linda Jo Martin, 69, Milford, KS, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2016, at the Geary Community Hospital. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, January 8, 2016, at the Penwell-Gabel Mass Hinitt Funeral Chapel 805 Caroline Ave. Fr. Peter O'Donnell will officiate. A visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. with a rosary service at 7 p.m. Thursday, January 7, 2016, at the Penwell-Gabel Mass Hinitt Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow the service at Highland Cemetery. The family has suggested memorial donations to be given to the Friends of Animals, or Junction City Special Olympics.
Linda was born August 12, 1946, in Junction City, KS, the daughter of William George Matthews, Sr. and Faye Ione (Pearson) Matthews.
Linda attended school in Junction City and graduated from Junction City High School with the class of 1964. She was recently recognized by her high school class for her dedication of keeping the class together for fifty years. At a very early age, she started working for Sherbert's Dairy in Junction City where she developed her excellent work ethic. She later went to work for Dillon's Grocery Store and continued to work there for thirty years until her retirement. Her ministry was sending personal greeting cards to people for all occasions. She was an avid supporter and volunteer for the Junction City Pace Setters and was a past secretary/treasurer for the local Special Olympics Organization for twenty plus years. Linda was a member of St. Xavier Parish, Diabetes Association, Disabled American Veterans' Ladies Auxiliary and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Linda will always be remembered by her nieces and nephews for the annual Easter Egg Hunt and Christmas Cookie Baking.
She married Logan R. Martin September 25, 1971, in Junction City, KS.
Survivors include her husband Logan of the home in Milford; two brothers, Kenneth W. Matthews and wife Vickie, Steven L. Matthews and his wife Collette all of Junction City, KS; one sister, Carol Schrader and her husband Kevin of Abilene, KS. She is survived by numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother William G. Matthews, Jr.
Linda will be deeply missed by her family, friends and classmates.
