Funeral services for SFC (RET) Lester L. Picou, Jr.,64, Junction City will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, September 2, 2011 at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel, 805 Caroline Avenue. Burial will follow at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be Thursday, September 1, 2011, 6-8p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt. Mr. Picou passed away August 25, 2011 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House, Manhattan, KS. Memorial contributions have been designated to the American Heart Association, 5375 W. 7th, Topeka, KS 66606.
Mr. Picou was born March 17, 1947, New Orleans, LA to Lester L. and Yvonne (Lawrence) Sr. He served in the U S Army from September 9, 1966 to April 30, 1987 retiring as E-7 at Fort Riley. He then worked for the Junction City Parks and Recreation as a supervisor for 15 years, and was currently working for New Directions as a supervisor and a para educator at Junction City Middle School.
He married Odeal Turner January 18, 1970 she survives of the home. Lester was a big Pittsburgh Steelers fan and he was an avid lover of fishing and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the rest of his family.
Other survivors include two sons, Errick Picou, Leesville, LA and Eldon Picou of Manhattan, KS, daughter, Ambolyn Jones of Junction City, four sisters, Phyllis Carroll of Greata, LA, Roslyn Picou of New Orleans, LA, Marlyn Johnson of New Orleans, LA and Beverly Collins of Salina, KS, two brothers, Elton Picou and Michael Picou both of LA, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Dilver Picou and one sister, Elaine Joseph.
