Funeral services for Leroy Williams, 86, of Junction City will be 1 p.m., Monday, February 6, 2006 at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington with Pastor Matthew Glasgow officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Riley Cemetery with full military honors. No visitation is planned. Mr. Williams died January 30, 2006 at Valley View Professional Care Center. Memorial contributions may be given to the First Presbyterian Church, 113 W. 5th Street, Junction City, KS and/or The Troubadours Senior Citizen's Group, c/o Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington, Junction City, KS 66441.

Mr. Williams was born April 7, 1919, McIntosh, Georgia to Allen Webster and Blanche Marietta (Frasier) Williams. The son of an A.M.E. church minister, he grew up in Illinois, New Jersey, Georgia and Florida. He attended college at Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, FL and several other schools through the Army.

Mr. Williams was a career Army man, retiring as SFC in 1968 after 22 years of service. He served in Korea, Ilinois, Viet Nam, Japan and Germany and earned many commendations and awards. While in Germany he married Martha Wosnitza in Heidelberg in 1959. She preceded him in death on June 26, 1980.

Before his Army service, he was active in music, directing the Royal Troubadours in New York City and singing in a quartet which performed regularly on the Amos and Andy Radio Show. After his retirement in Junction City he and his wife operated a gift shop, Chappy's Boutique, in the Westloop Shopping Center, and Williams operated a business, Humane Dimensional Inc. He was active in the Presbyterian Church for years as a deacon, elder, a Stevens minister and a choir member. He was one of the early founders of the Open Door Center, giving the organization its name. Williams was also an original member of the Troubadour Senior Citizen's singing group and for a short while was director of the choir. He also gave many years of service on the Junction City Arts Council Board of Directors.

Mr. Williams has no close family survivors. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Ruth and Edith and one brother, Webster.
