Leroy E. Champion
Leroy E. Champion, 78, of Junction City, formerly of Gillette, Wyo., died January 28, 2014 at Geary Community Hospital. Leroy was born October 19, 1935 in Quincy, Michigan, the son William & Bessie Wendorf Champion. He attended school and graduated from Jonesville (Michigan) High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, retiring as a Sergeant after 16 years of service to his country.
Leroy was a truck driver, primarily for Jim's Water Service in Gillette, Wyoming.
He married Louise Southwell August 13, 1957, in Litchfield, MI. She died August 19, 1990 . Survivors include: 2 sons, Doug Champion and his wife Sheila, Abilene, and Dennis Champion and his wife Dawn, Salina; a daughter, Sofronan Corrado, Junction City; 4 brothers; 2 sisters; 14 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Donnie Champion, 4 brothers, and 1 sister.
According to Leroy's wishes, cremation has taken place. No services are planned in Junction City. Burial of his ashes will be at a later date in Gillette, Wyoming.
Local arrangements are being handled by Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, Junction City.
