Leon L. Johnson, 90, of Junction City, KS passed away on February 17, 2018 at Valley View Senior Life Center.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 22, 2018, from 6:00 pm. to 8:00 pm. at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 203 N. Washington Street in Junction City, KS.

A combined funeral and memorial service for both he and his wife, Kyoko Johnson, will be held on Friday, February 23, 2018, at 9:00 am. at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home with Pastor Ronnie Roberts officiating.

Burial with Military Honors will follow the services at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at Fort Riley, 5181 Wildcat Creek Rd., Manhattan, KS 66503.

Memorials are to be in care of the JCFD Local #3309, 700 N. Jefferson St., Junction City, KS 66441.

Leon was born on July 8, 1927, in Danville, Illinois to Elmer and Celia (Johnson) Johnson. As a young man he joined the United States Army and traveled the world. His military obligation took him to Japan where he met Kyoko Tateda. They married on March 15, 1954 in Sapporo, Japan. They lived in many duty stations and ultimately settled their family in Junction City, Kansas.

Leon had many interests and hobbies including fishing, being an outdoorsman, being a handyman around the house. He also enjoyed sports specifically watching the "Chicago Bears" and "Chicago Cubs" play.

Leon is survived by his loving family: two sons, Vernon and wife Julie Johnson of Junction City, KS, James and wife Glenice (Pauly) Johnson of Junction City, KS; six grandchildren, Rosemary and husband Nathan Dahlgren of Topeka, KS, Sarah and husband Stavros Raymond Hanning of Manhattan, KS, Matthew Johnson of Topeka, KS, Kimberly Johnson of Junction City, KS, Ashley Johnson of Junction City, KS, and William Johnson of Junction City, KS; three great-grandchildren, Sean Dahlgren of Topeka, KS, Harper Dahlgren of Topeka, KS, and Maddox Hanning of Manhattan, KS.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kyoko Johnson, parents Elmer Sr. and Celia C. Johnson, and daughter, Mona Jean Sekanick.
