Funeral services for Leola C. Fitzgerald, 89, Junction City, will be held at 1:00PM, Friday, January 25, 2008 at the Lyona United Methodist Church with Rev. Marilyn Cox officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodbine Cemetery. No visitation is planned. Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington, is assisting the family with arrangements. Mrs. Fitzgerald passed away at Valley View Senior Life on Tuesday, January 22, 2008. Memorial contributions may be given to the Lyona United Methodist Church or sent in care of the funeral home.
Mrs. Fitzgerald was born December 19, 1918, in Woodbine, Kansas to William and Matilda ("Tillie" Diepenbrock) Kufalk. She grew up in the Woodbine area and graduated from Woodbine High School in 1936. She was married to Sturgeon D. Fitzgerald on September 10, 1939. they farmed their entire life near Woodbine unntil retirement when they moved into Woodbine. Mrs. Fitzgerald didn't work outside the home until her family was raised. She then worked as a cook at Rock Springs Ranch for several years. She served several years as a pianist for the Lyona United Methodist Church Sunday School.
Leola is survived by one son, Gene Fitzgerald and wife Esther of towanda, KS, two daughters, Annette Kramer of Raymore, MO andJeanette Cameron of Junction City, a daughter-in-law Linda Fitzgerald of White City, KS; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents two sisters and one son.
