Funeral services for Lawrence M. Young, 84, of Junction City will be held at 10 a.m., August 25, 2009 at the Episcopal Church of the Covenant with Father Dale Plummer officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 24, 2009 from 6p.m. - 8 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington Street. Mr. Young passed away at Chapman Valley Manor on August 19, 2009. Memorial contributions may be given to the Episcopal Church of the Covenant, 314 N. Adams Street, Junction City, KS 66441.

Mr. Young was born October 20, 1924, Junction City, KS to Emory and Goldie (Estes) Young. He was a graduate of Junction City High School in 1942. Following high school he joined the U. S. Marines December 12, 1942 serving during WWII, he was honorably discharged from the Marines March of 1945.

Lawrence then attended Kansas State University receiving his Bachelor of Science in Business and Accounting graduating in 1949. Lawrence then worked for John Strain Accounting in Junction City until 1959 when he then went to work at Fort Riley in the Budget Analysis office. He retired in 1988 as Comptroller of Fort Riley. He was also the bookkeeper for Flower Jeweler's for many years and was a member of NARFE and had served as treasurer. He had also served as a member of the Dorothy Bramlage Library Board in years past and was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Covenant.

He married Lillian Marie Alexa on July 3, 1946 she preceded him in death on December 31, 2007.

He is survived by three daughters, Tana Ebert and her husband Ken of Manhattan, KS, Christine Carroll and her husband Michael of Montclair, VA and Valerie Darland of Junction City, a son, David Young and his wife Darlene of Junction City; seven grandchildren; Jeff Ebert and his wife Rachel of Topeka, KS, Liz Roeser and her husband Justin of Manhattan, KS, Terra Barkman and her husband Mark of Olathe, KS, Dana Birmingham and Dustin Birmingham both of Richmond, VA, Alexa Darland and Lauren Darland both of Manhattan, KS and Drew Darland of Junction City, KS and five great-grandchildren; Paige, Grant and Jacob Roeser, Katelyn Ebert and Adler Barkman.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard Young.
