Laura Mae (Townsend) Goad, 89, a long time resident of Junction City passed away Dec. 14, 2009 at Valley View Senior Life Center. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 18, 2009 at the First Christian Church with Pastor Darel Boston and Pastor Ronnie Roberts officiating. A private family burial will take place at Highland Cemetery. The family will have visitation with friends following the memorial service. She was born February 3, 1920 In Neodesha, Kansas to John Edward Townsend & Cora Alice Townsend. Laura Mae graduated from Geneva High school in 1938. She married Howard L. Goad on September 7, 1941 in Iola, Kansas. They shared 52 years together before the death of her husband on September 19, 1993. She moved to Junction City, Kansas in 1942 where her husband was stationed in the Army at Ft. Rileu until his discharge in 1946. For many years she and her husband were involved in numerous civic activities in the Junction City/Fort Riley community.
She was a member of the First Christian Church and a devoted stay at home wife and mother. Laura Mae treasured all the times she was able to spend with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by one son, Emery Goad and his wife Jackie of Wichita, Kansas; two daughters, Deanna Fox and her husband Dale of Ottawa, Kansas and Colleen Miller and her husband Harold of Chapman, Kansas; one sister, Beulah Smith of Wichita, Kansas; nine grandchildren, Mike Goad of Wichita, Kansas, Leslie Goad of Prairie Village, Kansas, Brent Hudson and his wife Barbara of Wichita, Kansas and Keith Hudson from Amarillo, TX; Amy Finkeldei and husband Brad of Lawrence, Kansas, Julie Vago and her husband Gary of Nashua, N.H., Preston Fox and his wife Kelly of Kansas City, Missouri, Mark Miller and his wife Pam of Chapman, Kansas, Matthew Miller of Chapman, Kansas; six great grandchildren, Kara Hudson, Kirsten Hudson, Raegan Finkeldei, Chaney Finkeldei, Vienna Vago, Wyatt Miller, Hannah Miller, and Newt Miller.
