Laura E. (Darkeyes) Lacy, 85, of Junction City, passed away peacefully at 3:10 a.m. on January 21, 2017 at Geary Community Hospital. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 26, 2017 from 6p.m to 8p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 27, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Ward Chapel A.M.E. with Reverend Andrew Rollins officiating with burial to follow at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery.
She was born on August 2, 1931, Morriston, Florida to Samuel A. and Eulalia (Southerland) Wright. Laura enjoyed playing the piano, sewing, and cooking meals for her husband Albert Lacy and she loved all activities related to Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church in which she was a faithful member until she became ill. She was a an active member of the Women's Missionary Society and was also an active member o the St. Tabitha Chapter #75, and the Oasis Court #44 in which she held multiple positions.
Laura is survived by her husband Albert of 65 years, two grandchildren, Harold Lacy Jr. of Wichita, KS and Thula Lacy of Topeka, KS; five nieces, Edelina P. Buckmon of Claremont, Fl, Eulalia Hillard of Inverness, Fl and Gladys Combs of Citrus Springs, FL, Valerie Churchwell of Atlanta, GA, Acqunetta Pullins of Copperas Cove, TX; a nephew, Richard Lacy of Fort Worth, TX and a host of other nieces and nephews.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Harold Lacy, Sr., four brothers, Edward, Lawrence, Andrew and Charles, two sisters, Francis Churchwell and Joyce Dixon, her niece, Eunice Moore.
Laura was loved by many and her memory will live on forever, her legacy will thrive through her grandchildren, nieces and close friends, Rosemary Wormly, Mary Reid and Lillie Henderson.
