Laura Pauline Field
Laura Pauline Field passed away peacefully on her wedding anniversary, April 18, at the age of 99.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 23, 2016, 12:30 p.m.-1:30 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Chapel, 203 N. Washington, Junction City. A Memorial Mass of Resurrection will be 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, at St. Xavier Catholic Church. A private family Inurnment will be at a later date at Ft. Riley Post Cemetery, Ft. Riley.
Laura was born in Valley County, Nebraska, March 24, 1917 to Will and Mary (Paulsen) Nelson. Laura grew up on the farm with her 10 brothers and sisters. She taught school in a one-room schoolhouse in Nebraska. She later moved to Seattle, Washington with her sister Dorothy, where she met Maurice J. Field, who was serving in the U.S. Army, they were married April 18, 1942.
The military brought them to the Junction City area, where they raised 7 children.
Laura began her professional career with the Army & Air Force Exchange Service as a clerk at the Funston Post Exchange in 1956. She advanced to Manager of the Main PX and supervised the move to a new store on Custer Hill. She retired in 1982. In retirement she enjoyed golf and bridge. In the last few years her Friday bridge group was the highlight of her week.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Field, a son, Jack Field, parents Will & Mary Nelson, and all of her brothers and sisters.
She leaves behind her children, Tana Field, Jean Snyder, Rex Field, Mike Field (Denise), Paula King (Ed), and Mary Legeret (Tom); grandchildren, Chris Field (Emily), Brian Field (Rachael), Trish Morris (Brad), Malia Opat (Weston), Melissa Field, Ryan Edney, Terrah Stroda (Brandon), Tim Pendarvis, Julie Pfeifer (Matt), and Pamela Palmer (Evan); and 11 great grandchildren.
