Larkin H. Stenstrom, 87, of White City, passed away peacefully April 25, 2016 at Enterprise Estates Nursing Center in Enterprise. Larkin was born Oct. 18, 1928 at White City, the son of Herbert & Vinita (Larkin) Stenstrom. He graduated from White City High School in the Class of 1946. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Larkin was a member of the St. Xavier Catholic Church, Junction City; the White City Lion's Club; the Teddy L. Wilde, Post 299 of the American Legion, White City; the B.P.O.E. Lodge of Abilene.
Larkin loved his family, and enjoyed visiting with friends, and was very proud of his time in the United States Air Force. Larkin spent most of his service time in Mt. Home, Idaho. After his military service, they returned to the family farm in 1957, where they farmed and raised cattle until his retirement in 2011. He struggled with Parkinson's Disease for many years until he lost mobility and could no longer live at home.
Larkin married Peggy North at St. Rose Catholic Church in Council Grove on May 29, 1954. Peggy survives of their home. Other survivors include: 2 sons, Dr. Mark Stenstrom and his wife Debra, Junction City, and Dr. Mike Stenstrom and his wife Dr. Kristol, Shawnee; 5 grandchildren, Jeremy Stenstrom and his wife Jamie, Megan Stenstrom, Sofia Stenstrom, Arik Stenstrom, and Kjell Stenstrom; and 3 great grandchildren, Grayson Stenstrom, Gehrig Stenstrom, and Grisham Stenstrom. Larkin was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Marilyn Baker.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 29, 2016 at St. Xavier Catholic Church in Junction City, with Fr. Gale Hammerschmidt presiding. Burial of the ashes will follow at the White City Cemetery with military honors provided by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard from McConnell AFB. Vigil Service and a Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, April 28, 2016 at the church, followed by the family greeting friends until 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Larkin's honor to the Friend's of Animals, or to the White City Library, sent in care of Penwell-Gabel Junction City, 203 N.
