Kyle Austin Junghans passed away Thursday morning, November 3rd, 2011 in an auto accident on I-70. He was in between things he loved, his wife Stephanie, his son Devon and deer hunting on the farm.
Kyle was born January 29th, 1972. He was the oldest child of Fred and Andrea (Thurlow) Junghans. He was a 1990 graduate of Junction City High School, where he was an excellent student athlete having excelled in the class room, in band and on the basketball court. He is also a 1994 graduate of Kansas State University, where he majored in Agriculture Business. He was a graduate of the School of Banking in Colorado in 2001.
He was an avid KSU Fan. Following graduation he was employed by Central National Bank. Kyle remained with the bank for the next 17 years through his untimely death. Kyle enjoyed a close relationship with his employer and all of his co-workers. Beyond the bank, Kyle had many business ventures with his close friends and family- Gary, LaDonna, Clint and Aly and Matt Junghans. Kyle also worked the family farm and raised cattle. Kyle's home was the family farm on Old Stage Road were he was raised and worked alongside his father, Fred, who passed away unexpectedly just six weeks prior to Kyle. His mother Andrea passed away in 2003.
Kyle was a true outdoorsman. He loved to hunt whenever the opportunity presented itself. He also took many trips with friends and family to the Rocky Mountains to ride motorcycles, four wheelers, off road in his Jeep. Kyle was also extremely proud of the fact that he had learned to snowboard with his son, Devon. He enjoyed coaching his son's basketball team as well.
Kyle was a truly giving person, always helping out his friends and going out of his way for others. He was involved with a number of civic organizations throughout his career, serving on the boards of the YMCA, the United Way, and Sertoma Club to name a few.
He is survived by his wife Stephanie and 8 year old son Devon Austin and his step-sons, Austin and Cole Silsby, his former wife Monica Junghans, and sister Alicia, his nephews, Dakota Relford, and Weston Hattey. Other survivors include his Aunt and Uncle, David and Marilyn Thurlow, his cousins, Alison, Amanda, Justin and their families, brother and sisters-in-law, Will and Samantha Newhouse and their children, Katie, Grace and Jake, John and Staci Newhouse and their children, Emily, Ally and Matt, he is also survived by his mother-in-law, Kathy Newhouse.
He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Ron Newhouse.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church with Vicar Christian Schultz officiating. A private burial will follow at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 8, 2011, 5-8 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington Street. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorials be given to Junction City YMCA, 1703 McFarland Road, Junction City, KS 66441 or to the KSU Johnson Center for Basic Cancer Research, 1 Chalmers Hall, Manhattan, KS 66502-9909.
