Kenneth W. "Ken" Willey, 77, of Milford, KS passed away on March 17, 2014 at Leonardville Nursing Home. Cremation has taken place with the assistance of Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel. Memorial services with military honors will be held at 1p.m., Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery, 5181 Wildcat Creek Rd., Manhattan, KS.
Memorial contributions have been designated to the Geary Community Schools Foundation, 123 N. Eisenhower Dr., Junction City, KS 66441.
He was born on March 26, 1936, Emporia, Kansas to Huston D. and Gladys (Jacobs) Willey. Ken joined the U.S. Navy in 1954 and was honorably discharged in 1959. While serving in the Navy he was a hospital corpsman. Ken was a Biology teacher and Counselor for USD 475 for 36 years retiring in 1996. Ken received his B.S. Degree from Emporia Teacher's College and his M.A. Degree from Kansas State University.
He enjoyed doing leather work, cooking , working cross word puzzles, and was an avid reader. He belonged to the Junction City Little Theatre where he performed in many productions. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Covenant. Ken served on the Milford City Council. Ken enjoyed working with the youth and at one time served as the Juvenile Probation Officer in Junction City.
On May 12, 1957 he married his high school sweetheart Patricia Preston in Emporia, Kansas at the First Christian Church. She survives of the home.
Ken is also survived by his Sons, Rex Willey (Eve) of Junction City, KS and Daniel Willey (Stacey) of San Diego, CA and his Daughter, Valerie LeDuc of California. Other survivors include two brothers, Marvin Willey of Emporia, KS, Robert Willey (Betty) of Lubbock, TX, two sisters, Nena Branstetter (Don) of Virginia Beach, VA and Frances Fugit of AL, seven grandchildren, R. Danielle Kolander (Kyle), Derek Willey (Christina), Sara Valenciano (Joey), Mackenzie Lytle (John), Tracy Jensen, Ashlee LeDuc, Zak LeDuc and step-grandson, Jerry Rabe, seven great-grandchildren, Will Kolander, Olivia Grace Kolander, Dante Willey, Ella Willey, Emma Leigh Smith, Jaxon R. Lytle and Hazel Jacqueline Valenciano and many nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marjorie Kearns.
