Kenneth E. Salsbury, 80, of Junction City died peacefully on Saturday, June 4th, 2011 at his home surrounded by family. It was a beautiful, sunny morning with the birds singing loudly outside his window.
Visitation will be from 6-8pm on Monday, June 6 at Penwell-Gabel-Johnson Funeral Chapel with Rosary at 7:30. A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, June 7th at 10:00 at St. Xavier's Catholic Church. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery.
Kenny was born September 18, 1930 in Republic County Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry A. and Beulah Irene Curry Salsbury, as well as a sister Lorine Smith. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elaine Pelland Salsbury, as well as four children: Karen (Kevin) Connell of Junction City, Michael (Tammie) Salsbury of Enterprise, Mark (Debra) Salsbury of Rossville and Julie (Michael) Charlton of Cumming, Georgia. Eight grandchildren: Loren Connell of Chicago, Illinois, Cassie Wayne of Enterprise, Brett Salsbury of Lawrence, Matthew Salsbury of Topeka, Patrick Salsbury of Lawrence, Kelsey Charlton of Los Angeles, California , Andrew Charlton of Lubbock, Texas and Mallory Charlton of Cumming, Georgia. Three Great-Grandchildren: MaKaila Connell, Jayveon Thomas, and Carson Salsbury. He is also survived by a brother, Harold J.(Bud) Salsbury, of Lakeview, California, and a sister, Joyce Rogers of Paul, Idaho.
Kenny graduated from Clyde High School in 1948. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He was employed with Kansas Power and Light and Kansas Gas Service for 36 years. He retired in 1992.
