Kenneth Ray Bumgarner, 73, of Junction City, passed away Thursday, Mar. 4, 2004 at his residence. Visitation will be Sunday, Mar. 7, 2004, 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel. A funeral service will not be held, as cremation has been selected with a private inurnment at a later date. Memorials may be given to the Geary County Sheriff's Association, P. O. Box 867, Junction City, KS 66441and/or Friends of Animals, P.O. Box 580, Junction City, KS 66441and/or Shriner's Hospital for Children, 2001 S. Lindburgh Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63131.
Kenneth was born December 23, 1930, in Council Grove, son of Calvin Bumgarner and Fannie (Robinson) Crowell. He graduated from Alta Vista High School. Kenneth had worked at Goreham Motors, McKenna Tire Store, North & Co. Buick, was a co-owner of the Mobile Station in Grandview Plaza, former Chief of Police in Grandview Plaza, Geary County Sheriff's Department, and for the past few years sold real estate at Brown Real Estate & Auction until his retirement. He married Karen Kandt December 6, 1957 in White City; she survives of the home. Kenneth enjoyed hunting, fishing, and reading.
Survivors include three daughters, Kaylene Prevett and husband Dennis of Gardner, KS, Kathy Arnold and husband Ray of Junction City, and Karla Butler and husband David also of Junction City; one brother, Calvin Bumgarner of Kansas City; one sister, Ethel Matney of Kansas City; four grandchildren, Dustin Fisher, Clint Arnold, Chrissy Arnold, and Kaitlyn Butler.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step-father; Harlow Crowell, three brothers, Virgil and Earl Bumgarner, and Roger Crowell; and two sisters, Bernadine Glessner, and Erma Wojtkowiak.
