Kenneth L. Nelson, 71, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2015 at University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, KS. A graveside service with military honors will be held 1 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2015, at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery located at 5181 Wildcat Creek Road in Manhattan, KS. A visitation for Mr. Nelson will be from 6-10 p.m.Thursday, April 16, 2015, at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Funeral Chapel. Family will receive friends from 6-7:30 Thursday evening. At 7:30 a personal reflection and condolence service is scheduled and will run until 10 p.m.
Kenneth was born March 8, 1944, in Vanport City, OR the son of Lester L. and Opal (Yager) Nelson of Lincoln, NE. He lived the majority of his youth in Lincoln, NE prior to entering the military on July 24, 1964. His major performance was in finance where he received several excellent performance awards. He retired from the military service in 1988 with 24 years of honorable service.
Upon retirement, he elected to reside in Junction City, KS where he focused on Computer Technology through attendance at Kansas State University. He also owned and operated a mobile home rental company with 14 rental units. He later opened the Kenlu Day Care Business in his home and operated that for over 25 years.
He met his wife Louisa T. Mauga in 1988. They married February 26, 2000 in Las Vegas, NV. The two Love Birds have lived happily in Junction City where they both owned and operated the Kenlu Day Care until the time of his death.
Survivors include his wife Louisa of the home. He is also survived by six children, Kevin Nelson, Kenny Nelson, Fiapalagi Eteuati Mauga-Letuli, Emma Mauga-Pedro, Tinacelestine Mauga-Johnson, Burt Quincy Mauga; fifteen grandchildren, Orion Nelson, Palagi's kids, Jonathan Olokao Pedro, Jordan Siose Pedro, Jasper Rhienhardt Pedro, Matai Johnson, Burt Quincy Mauga Jr. and Mariah Mauga; 2 great-grandchildren, Jasper Aristotle Pedro Jr. and Jyrico Achillies Pedro; sister, Karen Nelson and brother, Lester L. Nelson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Lucille Keating.
