Funeral services for Kathi Jo Young, 60, of Junction City will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 14, 2010 with Pastor Ryan Hayden officiating at the University Christian Church, 2800 Claflin Rd., Manhattan, KS. Burial will follow the services at Humboldt Cemetery. Visitation will take place Friday evening from 7-9 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington Street, Junction City, KS. Mrs. Young passed away due to illness at her home on August 9, 2010. Memorial contributions may be given to the Friends of Animals, P. O. Box 580, Junction City, KS 66441 and Fibromyalgia Coalition International, 6220 Antioch Rd, Suite 212, Merriam, KS 66202-5107.
Mrs. Young was born July 17, 1950 Cedarvale, KS to Joe Frank and Fern I. (White) Carter. While in Cedarvale High School she played the drums in the marching band and attended Girls State, she graduated as Valedictorian for her Class of 1968. She then attended Emporia State Teachers College receiving her BS in Elementary Education graduating in 1972 and then taught at Avondale East USD 501 in Topeka.
Later she worked for Goodell, Stratton, Edmonds and Palmer Law Firm in Topeka as a bookkeeper and then operated a day care in her home. Kathi and her family moved to the family farm in Geary County in 1978 and taught at Milford Elementary and Eisenhower Elementary until 1993 when she became ill due to Fibromyalgia.
She married Lawrence R. Young June 6, 1970 Cedarvale, KS.
She was a member of University Christian Church and a Certified Instructor of Project Wild.
She is survived by her husband Larry and one son, Gregory L. Young both residing on the farm in Geary County and one daughter, Heather D. Duquette of New Richmond,WI and one sister, Juanell Sweaney of Cedarvale, KS.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, John David.
