Karola R. "Oma" Self

Karola R. Self, 76, of Chapman, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2023. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. with service following. Cremation will take place after the service. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to assist with funeral expenses to the Junction City Church of the Nazarene, 1025 S Washington St, Junction City, Kansas 66441.

She was born on January 24, 1947, to Josef and Gisela (Sixt) Kuhlman in Wiesbaden, Germany.

Karola enjoyed crocheting and tending to her plants. She loved watching the birds at her bird feeders and going fishing with her family. Karola was always very drawn to nature and spent a lot of time watching nature documentaries.

In 1971, she married Joe Self, Sr., in Atlanta, Georgia. Together they made their home in Chapman, Kansas, and raised three children.

Karola is survived by her loving husband, Joe of the home; her children, Marc Kuhlman of Germany, Joe Self, Jr. of Chapman, Kansas, Vicky Self of Chapman, Kansas; five grandchildren, Anna Kuhlman, Bernd Kuhlman, Michael Kuhlman, Dwayne Bourque, Jr., Andrea Bourque; and a host of extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
