Karen E. White, 77, longtime elementary school teacher in Junction City, KS, died Oct. 26, 2015 at her home in Junction City. Karen was born July 18, 1938 in Belleville, KS the daughter of Edward and Irene (Fraley) Reed. She attended Belleville schools and graduated from Belleville High School in 1956. Karen went on to Kansas State Teacher's College (now Emporia State University) and earned a B.S. in Education. She later obtained her Master's Degree in Special Reading at Kansas State University.
Karen was a member of First United Methodist Church, and was very active with the United Methodist Women in the church, as well as the church's library. Karen was on the Board of Directors of BirthLine in Junction City, was a former member of the Delta Zeta social sorority at Emporia, was a very active grandmother, and avid gardener.
Karen married Vernon "Shorty" White on Dec. 25, 1959 in Belleville. Shorty survives at home. Other survivors include: 2 sons, Brad White and his wife Christine, Lincoln, Nebraska, and Gary White and his wife Laura, Mission; a daughter, Brenda White, Mission; a brother, Lynn Reed, Ottawa; 2 sisters, Carol Munson and husband Jerry, Leawood, and Judi Martin and husband David, Springfield, Ohio; a brother-in-law, Everett Johnson, McPherson; a sister-in-law, Edith White, Spring, Texas; and 17 grandchildren. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister-in-law, Leora Reed.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 30, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Junction City, with Pastor Laurie Barnes presiding. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery in Junction City. The family will greet friends on Friday at the church, beginning at 9:30 a.m. until service time.
