June Beth Helm, 81, passed away at the University of Kansas Medical Center on January 31, 2009 after a brief illness. Beth was born on February 4, 1927 in Coolidge, Kansas to Paul and Jessie Holdren. She graduated from high school in 1945 in Coolidge, Kansas and then continued her education at University of Kansas and Fort Hays State University.
On June 18, 1947, she married Billie F. Helm in Coolidge, Kansas. They moved to Junction City in 1955 where she worked for many years in USD #475 as the secretary of Lincoln Elementary and personnel secretary for the school district under Harley Blanka. She finished her professional career working at Citizen Savings and Loan.
Beth was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church. She sang in the church choir and played in the bell choir for many years. She was also active in Chapter GO of PEO, Little Theater Guild, and volunteered with the Red Cross Blood Mobile.
Preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers, Robert and William Holdren.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Billie F. Helm of the home; a son, Robert W. Helm and his wife Marilynn of Hays, Kansas; a daughter, Marilyn J. Hellerud and her husband Bob of Junction City, Kansas; a sister, Jeanne Bailey and her husband Loren of Moses Lake, Washington,; an aunt, Mary Jo Holdren of Columbia, South Carolina; grandchildren- Eric Helm and wife Ziantha of Olathe, Kansas, Christopher Helm and Michelle Kraemer of Denver, Colo.; Kelli Creamer and husband Brett of Olathe, Kansas; Lesley Taylor and husband Ben of Grapevine, Texas; Lori Hellerud and fiance Dustin Carrillo of Prairie Village, Kansas; great-grandchildren- Kaden Creamer of Olathe, Kansas; William Helm of Olathe, Kansas; Jackson Taylor of Grapevine, Texas; Kinnan Helm of Denver, Colo. and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Eric Helm, Christopher Helm, Brett Creamer, Ben Taylor, Dustin Carrillo and Bob Hellerud.
Honorary Pallbearers wil be Charles Volland, John Summers, Jim Dean, Harold Deever, Lloyd Canaday, and Darel Boston.
Services will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at 10:00 at the 1st Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Matthew Glasgow officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Highland Cemetary.
