Judy L. "Miss Judy" Phelps (Marks), 80, passed February 24, 2016 in Manhattan, KS due to natural causes.
Judy was born on May 1, 1935 in Pulaski, Tennessee to her parents Jeff and Elizabeth Marks. Judy married James "Rob" Phelps on July 25, 1953. James served in the military which allowed the couple to travel to many places. But in 1974, they would come to live in Junction City and call it home.
Judy ran a daycare in her home for many years taking care of many of Junction City's children. On any day you could find Judy at Walmart working as a Customer Service Manager, as she had for 30+ years. She was also a proud and active member of Fellowship Temple (Manhattan, KS) for almost 25 years. Judy was well known in the communities of Junction City and Manhattan because of her care of children, her excellent customer service at Walmart, and most importantly, her devotion to the church. Anyone that met Judy instantly knew about her genuine kindness, patience, and strong faith. Helping others and living God's word in her everyday life was her life-long goal.
Judy is survived by her sons James Phelps Jr. (Sue), Reginald Phelps (Teresa), former daughter-in-law Gadira Scott-Sanjur, 10 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Jeff and Elizabeth, brother John "Jake" Marks, and her husband, James "Rob" Phelps.
Services will be held at First Christian Church on St. Mary's Road on Friday, March 4, in Junction City. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30am-10:30am followed by the funeral services at 10:30am. A private burial will follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Judy's Life.
Pallbearers will be Reginald Phelps, Jr., Trenton Dixon, Quentin Buchanan, Anthony Whetstone, David White and James Redrick.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Fellowship Temple Scholarship Fund in care of Penwell-Gabel, 203 N. Washington, Junction City, KS 66441.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community for their support the last couple of years and in her final days.
