Joyce Marie Peoples, 87, of Junction City, died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017 at Valley View Senior Life in Junction City. Joyce was born December 29, 1929 in Abilene, the daughter of Clifton and Darthula (Simpson) Wilkins. Joyce attended grade school in Abilene and then attended and graduated from Junction City High School in 1947.
Joyce was a member of 2nd Missionary Baptist Church, Order of Eastern Star, the VFW Auxiliary, and the Eagles Lodge, all of Junction City. She worked as Civil Service on Ft. Riley in the Finance Dept.
Joyce married Herbert Peoples on February 13, 1974 in Junction City. Herbert died July 15, 2007. Other survivors include: a daughter, Eureka Cook and her husband, Frank Cook, Jr., Brooklyn, New York; a step-son Cater Peoples and his wife Lynda, Junction City; a step-daughter, Anna Steward, Texas; a sister, Shirley Ingram and her husband William, Ft. Worth, Texas; 6 grandchildren, Cassandra Peaker, La Toya Cook, Frances Cook, Frank Cook, Feleica Cook, and Takeya Peaker, and a step-grandson, David Peoples.. She is also survived by a very close friend, Brenda Slaughter, Junction City. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, Clifton and Bryce; and 2 sisters, Beverly and Carolyn.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 15, 2017 at the 2nd Missionary Baptist Church Rev. Dr. Eric Malone presiding. A private family interment will be later at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at Manhattan. The family will greet friends Thursday evening, Sept. 14, 2017, 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Junction City Funeral Chapel, 203 N. Washington, Junction City, KS. Memorial contributions may be made in Joyce's name to 2nd Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund, 701 W. 10th, Junction City, KS 66441.
