Joyce Kelly, 63, of Milford, died Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka, after a courageous and long, 16 year battle with A.L.S. Joyce was born October 2, 1952 in Coatbridge, Scotland, the daughter of William and Margaret (Carter) Tinto. Joyce was raised in Scotland, and after her schooling, joined the Royal British Army. It was while she was serving in Germany, that Joyce met her future husband, Leo, who was serving in the U.S. Army.
Joyce married Leo Kelly on November 4, 1972 in Munchengladbach, West Germany, and together, they shared 43 ½ years to the day. They moved to Ft. Riley, and after Leo's military discharge and stayed in the Junction City area. Joyce worked for over 20 years as a retail manager with AAFES on Ft. Riley.
Survivors include her husband, Leo, of the home; a son, Will and his wife, Lovina, Ft. Carson, Colorado; 2 grandsons, DeVonte and Lathaniel; and 4 sisters, Margaret, Ellen, Christene, and Ina, all of Scotland. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents.
A visitation, where the family will greet friends, will be Saturday, May 7, 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m., at Penwell-Gabel Junction City, 203 N. Washington, Junction City. It was Joyce's wishes to be cremated after the visitation. Memorial contributions may be given to The A.L.S. Association, Mid-America Chapter, 6950 Squibb Road, Suite 210, Mission, Kansas 66202.
