A Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph "Joe" Polach, 95, of Junction City will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at St. Xavier Catholic Church with Father Al Brungardt officiating, burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington Street, Monday, September 27, 2010 from 6p.m.-8p.m. with rosary service at 7:30 p.m. Mr. Polach passed away at Valley View Senior Life Center on September 23, 2010. Memorial contributions have been designated to St. Xavier Catholic Church or St. Xavier Catholic School, P.O. Box 399, Junction City, KS 66441.
Mr. Polach was born February 19, 1915, Ellsworth County, KS to Josef and Philomena (Matys) Polach. Following his graduation from Ellsworth High School he moved to Hays, KS and then settled in Junction City, KS in 1940. He was a SCB 1st Class Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy during WWII from January 1944 to December 1945. Mr. Polach then worked for Safeway Stores, Inc. for 44 years until retiring in 1981.
Mr. Polach was a member of St. Xavier Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, #830 and a lifetime member and past Commander of the American Legion Post #45.
He married Josephine A. Bollig July 15, 1940 at St. Severin Church, Ellis County, KS.
He is survived by his wife Josephine of Junction City, KS, one daughter, Marilyn Stein and husband Robert of Garden City, MO, two grandchildren, one adopted grandchild, three step-grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and two nieces and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, half-sister Josie Cikanek, Sister, Zdenka Chamberlain and brother, Frank Polach.
Pallbearers will be members of the Knights of Columbus and grandson, Gregory Watson.
