Joseph "Sluggo" Halasz III, of Junction City, Kansas, died Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Mercy Regional Hospital in Manhattan, KS. He was born March 29, 1945 in Connellsville, PA., the son of Joseph Halasz, Jr., & the late Mildred (Wilson) Halasz.
He was a graduate of Dunbar Twp. High School, Class of 1963. After, he enlisted with the U.S. Army and served over 20 years until retiring as a Staff Sgt. During his enlistment, he served several tours of duty overseas including, Vietnam, Japan, Korea, Thailand and Germany.
Later, he worked for the U.S. Post Office, Salina, KS, until his retirement. He was a former member of the Leisenring Presbyterian Church. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan who loved to fish and hunt.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Ubol Halasz of Junction City, KS., Father, Joseph Halasz, Jr., of Monarch, sisters, Mary Zavisian & husband Ronald of Pymatuning, Margaret Miller & husband Ronald of Greensburg, Lara Lee Roycroft & husband Wayne of Uniontown, Lora Lynne Halasz of Monarch; nieces and nephews, Annette Datz & husband George of Ruffsdale, Brandi Lee Roycroft & Barry Page of Hopwood, Wendy Jo Roycroft of Junction City, KS., Justin Roycroft & fiancé Rachel Kline of Uniontown; great nieces & nephews, Shane Datz & fiancé Caitlin Roslonski of Scottdale, Eli, Angelica, Dakota, and Jaden Datz of Ruffsdale; three aunts, Margaret Langor, Helen Pepe and Irene Czajkowski; and an uncle, Frank Halasz.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Mary & Joseph Halasz, Sr. and maternal grandparents, Harry & Mary C. Wilson Seaman.
Viewing will take place on Thursday, June 9, 2011, from 2-9 p.m. in the Paul G. Fink Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. Pittsburgh St., Connellsville, PA from where a funeral service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Rick Watson officiating. Interment will follow at Sylvan Heights Cemetery in Uniontown, PA with full military rites accorded at graveside by VFW Post # 21 and the American Legion Posts # 301 and 762.
