Funeral services for Mrs. Johnnie Mae Carter, 67, Junction City, KS will be Saturday, June 3, 2006 at Ward Chapel AME Church, 1711 N. Jefferson at 11 a.m. with Rev. Euzell Ball officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, 6-8 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington. Burial and other services will be held at a later date in Lizella, GA. Mrs. Carter passed away May 30, 2006 at her home. Memorial contributions may be made to ALS Association, Keith Worthington Chapter, 526 South Market, Wichita, KS 67202.
Johnnie was born July 1, 1938 in Lizella, GA the daughter of Nolan and Ollie Mae (Jones) Jones. She graduated from Valley Hudson High School in Lizella, GA in 1956. She has be a resident of Junction City since 1972. Mrs. Carter was a member and stewardess of Ward Chapel AME Church. She worked as a housekeeper at Geary Community Hospital for ten years.
She was married to Robert L. Carter August 4, 1957 in Macon, GA, he survives at the home.
Other survivors include two sons; Tracy J. Carter, Topeka, KS and Ivan O. Carter, Junction City, KS; daughter, Regina D. Carter, Junction City, KS; brother Verne Harden Fredericksburg, VA and sister Emma Butts, Macon, GA; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Preceded in death by her parents, Step-father Willie Harden, uncle Wallace Jones and Grandmother Maebelle Jones.
Pallbearers will be Aron Randle, James E. Fleming, Sr., George Heard, Tom Jones, Gyorgy Nemeth and James Fleming, Jr.
