Services for Johnny (John) W. Gasken,47, of Junction City, KS will be held at First Christian Church,Thursday,July 11, 2002 at 10:00 a.m.Reverend Dr. Joe Belardo will officiate. John died July 8, 2002 at his residence.Visitation will be Wednesday, July 10, 2002, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Chapel, with American Legion Service at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be at Whitaker Cemetery, Sherman, Texas on Saturday, July 13, 2002. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made To The Family for Taylor Gasken's (Granddaughter)Education Fund, 204 S. Kiowa, Junction City, KS 66441. John was born August 15, 1954, Celina, Texas to Johnny Lee and Ava (Curtis) Gaskin, he graduated High School in Olney, Oklahoma. He married Lee August 11, 1978, Kingman, AZ.John joined the army following graduation in 1971, serving until 1986, he attended night classes at KSU during his tour at Fort Riley. John was a pillar in the community. He dedicated his life to helping others and especially the children of the
community. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Booster Club, Crossroads of Leadership, Elks Optimist and the American Legion Post #45, where he was still the Commander. He worked for Personnel Operations Branch in Fort Riley, KS. He served as the president of the J.C. Junior Baseball Association for five years. He was an active member within the United Way and Junction City Parks and Recreation. He was a great communicator and a strong individual. John loved Junction City, KS. Survivors: Wife: Lee Gasken, Junction City, KS, One Son; Chris Gasken and One Daughter; Gennifer Gasken both of Junction City, KS, Mother; Ava Walkup of Sherman,TX, One grandchild and several aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and a host of friends. Preceded In Death By: Father and One Sister; Shelly Gaskin Cole. Casket bearers: Fort Riley Honor Guard.
