John Robert Weber

January 2, 1942 — April 13, 2016

John Robert Weber, 74, of Milford, KS, died April 13, 2016 in Hospice at Valley View Senior Life after battling glioblastoma/a brain tumor.

John was born January 2, 1942 in Superior, NE. He graduated from De La Salle Academy in Kansas City, and majored in music at Central Missouri State College. His thoughts of playing the French horn professionally were set aside when he enlisted in the navy and took flight training.

After serving in the U.S. Navy on the USS Oriskany, John returned to Kansas City. In January 1969 he married Patricia Dixon. He worked for Montgomery Ward in Kansas City, Denver and Utah then other retail operations and Knights of Columbus Insurance. After returning to Kansas and moving to the Dixon farmstead, he taught music and band at St. Xavier Catholic School then served as the St. Xavier Parish Financial Administrator.

Wherever John went he nurtured his love of music. He played French horn and arranged and conducted music for The Troubadours, the Junction City Community Band, and the Abilene Community Band as well as many church choirs. John also acted and sang with the Junction City Little Theater.

John was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1029 and Monsignor James Bradley Assembly. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America, and later volunteered as a Boy Scout leader. He enjoyed reuniting with his old shipmates and was proud of the 1964 Triumph Spitfire he bought with his first naval commission, though he later said that the maintenance costs made it the worst purchase he ever made.

John is survived by his wife of 47 years Patricia, sons Robert (Jennifer) of New York, James (Ann Beckstrom) of Colorado, and Joseph of Turkey, grandchildren Benjamin and Caleb, mother Mildred, brothers Daniel (Danna) and Joel (Janna), sisters Mary (Jeff) Barker, Barbara (Jim Kenney) Weber and Margaret (Ed) Ravn. He was predeceased by his father, Robert.
